Surprising DNA links in Sonia Carabantes and Rocio Wanninkhof cases
2 September. Last month a terrible tragedy occurred when 17 year old Sonia Carabantes went missing and was later found dead, presumably raped close to her home in Coin, Malaga. Now a DNA test shows possible links with a much older case.
The Rocio Wanninkhof case went to trial, but the accused woman was never fully found to have been the murderor. Now the DNA link reopens this case in a completely new light.
Rape and murder cases of this kind are relatively rare in Spain and always hit the headlines in a big way. Approximately 35 girls have died over the past eleven years. Now up to three cases in the same area over the past 4 years are being investigated to see if there is new evidence about links.
