From Fires to Storms in 24 hours: fire services change roles
17 August. Over night hail storms and heavy rain hit many parts of northern Spain. Alcañiz, in Teruel, Aragon, was particularly hit with many roofs and cars damaged; also parts of Catalonia, including many beaches.
Cooler weather has reached all parts of Spain, although in many parts it is relative. Temperatures will not fall seriously for several more days. However, for the fire services, the change is a relief as significant numbers of burnt areas have now been soaked by the rain. Nevertheless, heavy summer storms cause other types of call-out for the emergency services. yet across Spain people have slept better than for weeks and no one had to stay away from home due to fires.
